About this activity
Twiskeroute (red); the Grand Tour of Het Twiske
The Twiskeroute (red) is the longest and most extensive walking route through the Het Twiske recreation area in North Holland. Stretching 16 kilometres, this route takes you over and alongside the high green ring dyke that borders the area, with the northern part of the route coming closest to the former peatland landscape. A real journey of discovery for anyone who wants to get to know the area properly.
Het Twiske is a vast recreational area north of Amsterdam, full of ponds, meadows, reed-lined banks and peaceful polder paths. The red route connects several starting points, including the Speelsloot, the Polderweg and the Boerderij, so you can also break the walk down into shorter sections. The route is signposted and can also be downloaded as a GPX file for use on your phone or GPS.
A lovely day out for anyone who enjoys spending half a day or a full day outdoors, surrounded by the North Holland countryside at its best. It’s easy to combine with a picnic or a visit to the facilities in the recreational area.
