Volunteer Run Garden IJplein

Voedseltuin IJplein is a peaceful, community-run food garden in Amsterdam-Noord where you can wander among growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers, sit on a bench, and enjoy the open-air, “hidden green spot” vibe by the water. The garden is always open and welcomes visitors for a simple walk-through: great if you want an easy, low-key outdoor activity. Beyond being beautiful, it has a purpose: the garden is run by volunteers and helps grow (often organic) produce that supports local social initiatives such as the food bank and community meal programs. Good to know: it’s about a 2-minute walk from the IJplein ferry (handy if you’re coming from Central Station).
