IJplein Food Garden; growing food together on the banks of the IJ
On the banks of the IJ in Amsterdam-Noord lies a special place: the IJplein Food Garden, a community garden where volunteers work together to grow organic food for the Food Bank and Resto van Harte. The garden is run entirely by volunteers and connects people with one another, with nature and with the story behind their food.
The garden is always open to the public and a lovely place to stroll through, sit on a bench and enjoy the view of the IJ. For children, it’s a wonderful place to see how vegetables grow. From May to September, there are free guided tours on the first Sunday of every month. Would you like to get involved? Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning, volunteers work together in the garden, and new gardeners are always welcome.
A peaceful and inspiring place for anyone who wants to slow down for a while and do something meaningful, or simply enjoy a green corner of Amsterdam with a view of the water.
