NEMO Science Museum: science you can really feel, taste and experience The green, ship-shaped building above the IJ Tunnel is one of Amsterdam’s most striking structures, and what goes on inside is just as impressive. NEMO is the largest science museum in the Netherlands and a place where you don’t just look at things, but actually experience them for yourself. Making giant soap bubbles, conducting experiments in a real chemistry lab, setting off a chain reaction – NEMO invites you to discover for yourself how the world works. Spanning five floors, you’ll explore themes such as energy, light, sound, gravity and human biology. On the fourth floor, you’ll find Humania, where you can learn all about the human body through games, quizzes and museum exhibits. Workshops and live demonstrations round off the programme. And don’t forget the roof: the free rooftop terrace offers a spectacular panoramic view of Amsterdam, with a café where you can relax for a while. NEMO is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:30 and is a brilliant destination for families with children, as well as for adults looking to satisfy their curiosity. Allow at least 3 hours. Booking tickets in advance is strongly recommended.
