Kokedama workshop at Wildernis Amsterdam; Japanese plant art in your own hands
At the cosy plant shop Wildernis on Bilderdijkstraat in Amsterdam, you’ll learn the Japanese art of kokedama during this evening workshop. Kokedama literally means ‘moss ball’ and is an age-old technique in which a plant grows not in a pot, but in a ball of clay and moss – both decorative and fully functional.
Workshop leader Fabrizia will take you through the history of kokedama and guide you step by step through the process: how to shape the clay ball, how to place the plant inside, how to secure the moss around it, and the different ways to display and hang your kokedama. She’ll also share some care tips to ensure your little plant continues to thrive at home.
The workshop lasts 1.5 hours, is conducted entirely in English and costs €50 per person. The next available dates are 24 April and 16 June 2026. The workshop starts at 19:00 in the Tetterode building next to the shop. Groups can also request a separate date or venue. A relaxing and original evening for anyone with green fingers or who simply fancies doing something creative.
