About this activity
Eye Filmmuseum is one of Amsterdam’s most fun “watch + do” museums for children: a striking white building on the north bank of the IJ, directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station (easy to reach via the free ferry; about a few minutes plus a short walk). For families, there’s Mission Super Eyes, a playful discovery route (ages 4–12) that guides you through the museum and the What is Film? exhibition, ending with creating your own short animated film together. For younger kids, Cinemini (ages 2–6) offers a gentle first cinema experience short films followed by hands-on play with light and shadow in a special “lightscape.” Between screenings, kids can keep experimenting: make a flipbook, try stop-motion at the animation tables, and explore interactive parts of the permanent exhibition. There are also regular children’s screenings (Wed/Sat/Sun and daily during school holidays), plus workshops, so it’s worth checking the kids calendar before you go.
