About this activity
ARTIS Amsterdam; one of the oldest zoos in the world, right in the heart of the city
ARTIS has been a household name in Amsterdam since 1838, and you can tell that the moment you step through the gates. The park is steeped in history, with 26 listed buildings, monumental 19th-century structures and a botanical garden filled with hundreds of trees and plants. But it’s also simply a day of animal-watching at its best.
From gorillas and chimpanzees to reticulated giraffes, African penguins, lions, red pandas and jaguars: the diversity is immense. In the refurbished Kerber Terrace, you’ll feel as though you’re in Madagascar amongst the ring-tailed lemurs and red ruffed lemurs. The Butterfly Pavilion, the Savannah and the Wolf Enclosure are other highlights. There are daily keeper talks where you can learn all about the animals. And the Planetarium, included in your ticket, takes you on a journey through the universe.
ARTIS is a brilliant day out for the whole family, but also for anyone who simply wants to slow down for a while in a green, historic park in the heart of Amsterdam.
